Christianity

I didn't want to post another article about how faith led to the murder of a bunch more people so soon after posting Islamic Extremism and Paris: Faith Isn't A Fucking Virtue, but here I am.

From the Planned Parenthood Shooter's perspective, his action was rational. This isn't a question of mental illness or insanity.

He was taught to believe, by faith, that:

The Christian world is celebrating Easter, so I've been talking with folks about the holiday and its origins. Anyone who really thinks about it should be confused because what the hell do the name of holiday and eggs and rabbits have to do with the resurrection of Jesus?

Well, nothing. Easter was likely a pagan fertility goddess. Rabbits and eggs are symbolic of fertility and the celebration happens in the Spring.

About a year ago, a friend of mine who is a pastor at a church, posted on Facebook that their church had been flooded after a major rainstorm. He said "Christ's body" was "truly present" in the clean-up of the damage. It was his way of expressing his thanks to everyone who came and helped.

Stuff like this bothers me a lot.

Now, Satan doesn't actually exist, but for the sake of argument, let's just take the story as it is.

In Genesis chapter 3, we learn about The Fall of Man. Genesis 3:1 says:

YHWH

Is Allah the same as Yahweh?

While discussing Allah with some Christians, I made the statement that Allah is the same as Yahweh... and this apparently set a whole bunch of people off who had to tell me I was wrong. I read the Qur'an last year and I cannot possibly understand how anyone could read this book and say Allah is a different god from Yahweh.

A good friend of mine, a devoted Christian, recently posted a quote which he felt contained some important questions one should ask one's self.

A few years back, three questions rocked my world. They came from different people in the span of a month.

Question 1: Had you been a German Christian during World War II, would you have taken a stand against Hitler?

Whether you are a believer or not, you've had to have heard about contradictions in the Bible. Believers usually try to dismiss the contradictions by claiming they aren't truly contradictions. (e.g. the contradictions in the Gospels about who finds the empty tomb.)

Futurama Scene showing a long list of non-missing links.

Yesterday, I began a story about a pair of Jehovah's Witnesses in my living room. I finished yesterday's post after I scolded the gentleman for making the ridiculous claim that scientists don't believe in the Big Bang Theory anymore. /facepalm

He tried the First Cause argument. He tried dismissing the Big Bang Theory. It was time to pull out another awful argument.

Timeline and Structure of the Universe

Last week, I was visited by two ladies who are Jehovah's Witnesses. I always enjoy talking to Jehovah's Witnesses, but they are just never prepared to talk with someone like me. One of the women took the lead and within 5 minutes or so, she realized she was seriously out of her depth, so she asked if she could come back with "someone smarter." I told her she was welcome to come back.
