The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, a.k.a. SNAP, is the technical name for the "Food Stamps" program. The first food programs for the poor were introduced in the late 1930s and those programs are under the authority of the Department of Agriculture. In the 1970s, these food programs were added as part of the regular Farm Bills that go through Congress every 5 years.

One of the central themes of Republican ideals nowadays is that government is terrible at everything and that the private sector is supreme. Well, I would just like to take a moment and give some love to an example of efficient government.

This week the Supreme Court of the United States overturned the Defense of Marriage Act. The case being heard was brought by a woman named Edith Windsor. She was forced to pay Estate Taxes when her wife died and so she sued the IRS to get a refund.

Guess what?

If you fucking love our country so god damned much, then fucking love OUR country!

I recently tried to create a household analogy for the Debt Ceiling. It's awkward, I know, but that's because the way our government handles finances doesn't exist anywhere except for in government institutions. I asked for suggestions to improve the analogy and I received a few tweets on the subject.

So, first, let me say thank you to @es1999 for at least trying. Let's jump right in.

Raising the debt ceiling DOES NOT AUTHORIZE MORE SPENDING. It simply allows the country to pay for spending that CONGRESS HAS ALREADY COMMITTED TO...
